This guide explains how to view and monitor GLIM (Group Loan with Individual Monitoring) accounts, including the parent
GLIM account and individual member loans.
Viewing from the Group Overview
The primary way to view GLIM accounts is through the group's overview page:
- Log in to Symba Microbanking
- Navigate to Groups from the main menu
- Search for and click on the group
- Scroll down to the GLIM Accounts section
The GLIM Accounts section displays a table with the following columns:
- GLIM ID: The unique identifier for the parent GLIM account
- Account Number: The account number assigned to the GLIM account
- Product: The loan product name
- Principal: The total principal amount for all member loans combined
- Outstanding: The total outstanding balance across all member loans
Click on any row to view the detailed GLIM account information.

When you click on a GLIM account, you see the GLIM Account Overview page showing:
Member Loan Details Table
A table listing all individual member loans in the GLIM account:

Navigation
Click on any member's row to navigate to their individual loan account, where you can:
- View the full loan details
- See the repayment schedule
- View transaction history
- Access all standard loan management features
Understanding GLIM Account Structure
A GLIM account has a hierarchical structure:
GLIM Account (Parent)
├── Member 1 Loan (Child)
├── Member 2 Loan (Child)
├── Member 3 Loan (Child)
└── Member N Loan (Child)
Parent GLIM Account:
- Has a GLIM ID and account number
- Tracks the total principal and outstanding balance
- Serves as a container for all member loans
- Used for reporting and monitoring at the group level
Child Member Loans:
- Each is a separate loan account
- Linked to the parent GLIM account
- Has its own repayment schedule
- Can be managed independently
- Tracked individually for credit history
Monitoring GLIM Status
The GLIM account status reflects the collective status of all member loans:
- Pending Approval: One or more member loans are pending approval
- Active: At least one member loan has been disbursed and is active
- Closed: All member loans have been fully repaid or closed
To see the status of individual member loans:
- Click on the member's loan from the GLIM Account Overview
- Check the loan status badge at the top of the loan detail page
Using GLIM Information
For Loan Officers
Use the GLIM Account Overview to:
- Monitor overall group loan performance
- Identify which members are current or delinquent
- Track total outstanding balances
- Plan collection activities
- Generate reports on group lending
For Group Meetings
Use the member loan details to:
- Discuss individual member progress
- Review outstanding balances
- Plan collective repayment strategies
- Track member accountability
For Reporting
The GLIM structure provides:
- Group-level summaries (GLIM account)
- Individual member details (child loans)
- Both perspectives for comprehensive reporting
Viewing GLIM Accounts in USSD
GLIM accounts are also accessible via USSD for group members (depending on your orgization's configuration):
- Group members dial the USSD code and log in
- Select their group
- View group totals including GLIM loans
- See their individual loan details
The USSD system displays:
- The member's individual loan balance
- Their repayment amount
- Option to make repayments via mobile money
