Creating GLIM Accounts

This guide explains how to create a GLIM (Group Loan with Individual Monitoring) account for a group, allocating specific loan amounts to individual members.

Prerequisites

  • The group must be activated
  • The group must have active client members
  • You must have permission to create loan applications

Steps

  • Log in to Symba Microbanking with a user account that is authorized to create loan applications
  • Navigate to the group's details page
  • Click the menu button in the top right
  • Select "Applications" → "GLIM Application"
  • In the GLIM Application wizard, complete each step:

Step 1: Account Details

  • Product: Select the loan product from the dropdown
  • External ID (optional): Enter an external reference number if needed
  • Loan Officer: Choose the loan officer who will manage this loan
  • Submitted on: Select the date the application is being submitted (defaults to today)
  • Disbursement on: Select the date the loan is expected to be disbursed

Click "Next" to proceed.

Step 2: Terms

Configure the loan terms that will apply to all member loans (dependent on the product configuration):

  • Principal: The principal that will be used to generate the Repayment Schedule (Step 5)
  • Term Options: Specify the repayment frequency
  • Repayments: Enter the number of repayments
  • Interest Rate: Enter the annual interest rate percentage

Click "Next" to proceed.

Step 3: Charges

Select any charges that should apply to the loan:

  • Choose from available charge types (disbursement fees, processing fees, etc.)
  • The system will add the charge to the loan
  • You can add multiple charges if needed

Click "Next" to proceed.

Step 4: Active Client Members

This critical step allocates loan amounts to individual group members:

  • The table shows all active members of the group
  • For each member you want to include in the GLIM loan:
    • Check the checkbox next to their name
    • Loan Purpose (optional): Select the purpose of the loan
    • Enter the Principal amount for that member

Important Notes:

  • You must select at least one member
  • Each member's principal becomes their individual loan amount
  • The total principal will be calculated automatically. The principal amount specified in Step 2 is only used to generate the Repayment Schedule.
  • Members not selected will not receive a loan or have repayment obligations

Click "Next" to proceed.

Step 5: Repayment Schedule

Optionally click "Generate Repayment Schedule" to show a repayment schedule based on the principal and terms chosen in the previous steps.

Click "Next" to proceed.

Step 6: Review

Review all the GLIM application details:

  • Group information
  • Loan terms
  • Selected charges
  • Member allocations with individual amounts
  • Total loan amount

If everything is correct, click "Submit" to create the GLIM application.

Result

The system creates:

  • One parent GLIM account with a unique GLIM ID
  • Individual child loans for each selected member
  • Each child loan is linked to the parent GLIM account
  • All loans are created in "Pending Approval" status

You can view the GLIM account from the group's overview page in the "GLIM Accounts" section.

What Happens Next

After creating the GLIM application:

  1. The loans must be approved before disbursement
  2. Approval happens at the individual loan level - you approve each member's loan separately
  3. Once approved, you can disburse the loans
  4. Members make repayments for their individual loans
