Resetting security codes

Security codes need to be reset when a client forgets their code or after 3 unsuccessful login attempts which locks the account.

Prerequisites

  • The client has a security code that needs to be reset
  • Log in to Symba Portal with a user account that is authorized to reset client security codes

Steps

  • In the navigation menu, click on "Payments"
  • Click "USSD Emulator"
  • In the Security Codes section, search for the client by name or ID
  • Click on the client's name to view their details
  • Click the "Reset Security Code" button
  • A new 6-digit security code is automatically generated and displayed
  • Important: Copy this code immediately - it will only be shown once
  • Send the new security code to the client securely (SMS, in person, etc.)
  • Click "Done" to confirm

The old security code is invalidated and the new code is now active. The unsuccessful login counter is also reset to zero.

When to reset a security code

Reset a security code when:

  • The client forgets their security code
  • The account is locked after 3 unsuccessful login attempts
  • The client suspects their code has been compromised
  • The client requests a code change for security reasons

Security considerations

  • Verify the client's identity before resetting their code
  • Use a secure channel to send the new code to the client
  • Document the reset in case of audit requirements
  • Inform the client that the old code no longer works
